Darwin used the term artificial selection to distinguish this process from natural selection. Natural selection is the process by which living things with beneficial traits tend to survive and reproduce more than individuals with other, less successful, traits. It is also known as survival of the fittest. Artificial selection, on the other hand, is the reproduction of organisms with beneficial traits resulting from the influence of humans.
