The ASVAB Auto and Shop Information test is designed to evaluate test takers’ overall knowledge of automobiles including the transmission, electrical systems, and mechanics. In order to be able to perform well on this test, candidates should have a solid understanding of several automotive systems and different types of automobiles. This is a specialized part that does not impact the Armed Forces Qualification Test (AFQT) score, however, it is used to determine a candidate’s eligibility for specific military occupations.

The number of questions and time limit will vary, depending on which version of the test you choose to take. The traditional pencil-and-paper version of the Auto & Shop Information Subtest has 25 questions that are required to be completed in 11 minutes. Typically, the questions are divided into two parts, one is for shop-related questions and the other is for auto-related ones. In terms of the computerized test, there are 11 questions on automobile information, which must be finished in 7 minutes, and 11 questions on shop information which must be done in 6 minutes.
