A lathe is a tool which is typically used to carve long, slender pieces of wood. The wood is attached to the lathe and an electric motor spins the piece of wood. A cutting blade is then used to remove parts of the wood, giving a decorative shape. A lathe would not be useful in making the other objects listed.
